Giuseppe Castiglione, an Italian Jesuit missionary painter, entered the Catholic Jesuit order at age 19 as a monk, studying painting and architecture. He came to China as a missionary in the 54th year of Kangxi's reign (at age 27) and was summoned to serve in the imperial court. He excelled at painting figures and birds, especially horses. He painted peonies by expressing layers with varying shades of color, showing the front and back of leaves, and realistically delineating veins, creating a strong three-dimensional effect. The vase contains rare twin-stemmed peonies, symbolizing auspiciousness and good fortune, representing peace and prosperity.
Through ARTEX's over 30 years of design experience and manufacturing techniques, the painting is recreated on pens and notebooks using transfer printing and silk screening. Simple lines outline the peonies on the ballpoint pen body, without overly complex colors, merely using white lines to showcase the splendor of the peonies: for the notebook, the deconstructed peonies are presented in an interwoven real and illusionary manner, emphasizing the three-dimensional and layered effects of the original work. The specially designed rose gold metal frame adds to the imagery of prosperity and peace.
