Giuseppe Castiglione, an Italian missionary painter, was an Italian. At 19, he joined the Catholic Jesuit Order as a friar, studying painting and architecture. He came to China to preach in the 54th year of Kangxi's reign at the age of 27 and was summoned to serve in the imperial court. He excelled at painting figures and birds and flowers, especially horses. He painted peonies with varying shades of color to create a sense of depth, depicting the front and back of leaves and realistically outlining veins, giving them a strong three-dimensional quality. The vase contains rare twin-blooming peonies, symbolizing auspiciousness and the meaning of peace and prosperity.
Through ARTEX's over 30 years of design experience and production techniques, the painting is recreated on pens and notebooks using transfer printing and silk screen printing. Simple lines are used to outline peonies on the rollerball pen body, without overly complex colors, simply using white lines to showcase the splendor of the peonies. On the notebook, the deconstructed peonies are presented in an interplay of real and illusory elements, emphasizing the three-dimensionality and layering of the original work. The specially designed rose gold metal frame adds to the imagery of prosperity and peace.
